There are three main types of skin cancer that we regularly see at our Skin Cancer Clinic in Perth:
- Basal cell carcinoma – the most common type skin cancer, it grows in the basal cells and can be visible on the epidermis (the skin’s outer layer).
- Squamous cell carcinoma – the second most common type of skin cancer, it grows in the squamous cells and are also visible on the epidermis.
- Melanoma – albeit the least common, this type of skin cancer is the most serious. They begin as loosely growing melanocytes underneath the epidermis. They produce unruly moles on top of your skin.
Skin cancer is the most prevalent type of cancer among Australians, especially so with our beautiful sunny Western Australian climate. As with any cancer, early detection, diagnosis, and treatment is the key for better recovery. Fortunately, Woodbridge Family Practice offers a variety of treatments to remove skin cancer.
